Maleic anhydride, also known as maleic anhydride or MA, is a commonly used and important organic chemical raw material. It is a white crystal with a strong pungent odor at room temperature. Its consumption is second only to phthalic anhydride and acetic anhydride, mainly used for the production of unsaturated polyester resins and alkyd resins. It is a raw material for the production of a series of important basic and fine chemicals such as 1,4-butanediol (BDO), gamma butyrolactone (GBL), tetrahydrofuran (THF), maleic acid, fumaric acid, and tetrahydrophthalic anhydride. In addition, it is used in the fields of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, coatings, inks, lubricant additives, papermaking chemicals, textile finishing agents, food additives, and surfactants.
